ABOUT FEBWE – ECOWAS NIGERIA
FEBWE was founded by ECOWAS Commission and launched in Ghana in 2009. FEBWE means – Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs. The acronym “FEFA” is being used by the Franco countries while Anglo countries use “FEBWE.” FEFA/FEBWE is to work for the advancement of women entrepreneurs in the ECOWAS Region.
- To encourage and develop the common interest of Women Entrepreneurs.
- It is to promote and encourage border transactions among the ECOWAS countries which leads to Free Cross Border Trade.”
- It facilitates friendly relationships, collaborations & partnerships between the ECOWAS women entrepreneurs and their international counterparts.
- Trade, Investment and Exhibitions of Quality Products will emerge through rival competitions during Trade Fairs and Exhibitions arranged amidst ECOWAS Regional countries using ETLS.
In line with the inauguration of this Federation in 2009 by the ECOWAS Commission, each ECOWAS was mandated to go back home to launch her chapter. Thus Iyalode Alaba Lawson MFR returned to Nigeria & started mobilizing women entrepreneurs cut across highly and lowly down to the grassroots.
Iyalode closely worked with her Benin Republic counterparts for the free border trade across our borders both at Idiroko and Seme Border. It yielded good results as both leaders met with the Customs and Immigration Officials, while Memorandum of Understanding was signed.
ECOWAS FEBWE – Nigeria under the leadership of Iyalode Alaba Lawson MFR, the Pioneer President sought approval from Dr. Enobong, the ECOWAS officer in charge of FEBWE then for Nigeria Chapter launching.
To the glory of JEHOVAH God, ECOWAS FEBWE – Nigeria was launched on Monday 27th February 2012 at Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja by FEFA/FEBWE National President – Mme Candide Leguede from Togo.
She was supported by Presidents from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Republic du Benin.
It was a colorful event rounded up in the evening with Her Excellency – Chief Mrs. Olufunso Amosun as the Chairperson.
Among dignitaries that attended the launching and the dinner was High Chief Mrs. Opral Benson OFR; Chf. Mrs. Tutu Adeleke OON; Her Majesty – Olori Adeyemi of Alaafin of Oyo; Barrister Mrs. Margaret Orakwusi – President, Nigerian Fishing Trawlers Association; Hon. Tola Banjo – The Deputy Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, High Chie Mike Ibru of Sheraton Hotels and his amiable wife & Alhaji Chief ‘Tunji Labode – President of Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce.
Her Excellency Dame Abimbola Fashola, Former First Lady of Lagos State was highly represented as well as FEBWE revered Matron Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu; our Mama who is also our Matron, Alhaja Toyibat Adeniji – a great Woman Entrepreneur. The first indigenous woman entrepreneurs to go into Mining and Education.
She was represented by her daughter and other distinguished guests too numerous to mention.
