ECOWAS – FEDERATION OF BUSINESS WOMEN ENTREPRENEUR, represented by the National President Princess Omotola Omole and Barr. Joanne Egboh, joined WEMA BANK’s international Women’s Day event on Friday, March 8th, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. The event showcased Wema Bank’s unwavering dedication to empowering and supporting women in the workplace and beyond. Mrs. Oluwayemisi Olorunshola, the Chairman of Wema Bank, extended a special invitation to the ECOWAS-FEBWE, underscoring the bank’s commitment to fostering collaboration and advancing women’s empowerment initiatives.
Moruf Oseni, the managing director/CEO of Wema Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to gender equity, announcing a significant allocation of N8.9 billion for uncollateralized loans for women and support for businesses run by women.
Moruf Oseni emphasized the importance of gender equality in the workplace, stating that Wema Bank is intentional about recruiting and supporting women throughout their careers. The bank recognizes the vital role women play in driving economic growth and societal progress. By earmarking N8.9 billion for uncollateralized loans and providing support to Nigerian businesses led by women, Wema Bank is not just paying lip service to gender equality but actively working towards tangible results.
Oseni highlighted the necessity of inclusivity, likening a workplace without women to a plane flying on one wing—imbalanced and inefficient. He emphasized creating an enabling environment where women are not disadvantaged compared to men. Wema Bank’s efforts extend beyond financial support; they aim to ensure the success and societal impact of businesses run by women.
The International Women’s Day event served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of women entrepreneurs and leaders. Notable dignitaries, including Hon Ginika and Chairman Wema Bank, joined the event, reaffirming the collective commitment to gender equity and women’s empowerment.
Wema Bank’s dedication to empowering women goes beyond rhetoric, as evidenced by its substantial investment in uncollateralized loans and support for women-led businesses. By fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities for women to thrive, Wema Bank sets a commendable example for other institutions. As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us continue to champion gender equality and support initiatives that empower women to reach their full potential.
