FEBWE ECOWAS Nigeria Inaugural Meeting

Iyalode Alaba Lawson gave a brief history of FEBWE (Ecowas/Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs) which was Launched in Ghana in 2009 and had representatives in all 15 West African Countries.

FEBWE/NIGERIA was Launched on the 27th of February 2012 at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Lagos.

FEBWE’s major function is to create a platform for Women Entrepreneurs in the EU (European Union).

Iyalode emphasized the need to understand and have a speaking command of the French language so as to communicate with other countries better. A French teacher will be employed for a couple of months to help members learn and also purchase books as well. Teachers and students alike will be given 30mins from every meeting day.

Iyalode Alaba Lawson also stressed the need for all members to be actively involved in activities to achieve a common goal. Ideas should be thrown open and are welcomed so everyone can learn and learning at all ages and stages is continuous.

Mrs. Nana Okuribido (NC -ANWBN) gave us an insight into her experience at the EU office in Abuja with Mrs. Gbadamosi (CIPE Country director). A representative of the EU in charge of women Entrepreneurs talked about concentrating and focusing on women Entrepreneurs and working with ANWBN to achieve this, Mrs. Okuribido then mentioned there was already an organisation that is a primary member of ANWBN who is already working across the board which is FEBWE.

To this end, FEBWE will work directly with the ANWBN  to achieve its aims and objectives for the  ECOWAS region. She stressed the need to do more work to have a more robust association especially with Entrepreneurs in Lagos and Abuja since the EU will soon call for a meeting to start work in earnest.

FEBWE in West Africa will be what ANWBN is to Nigeria Women business entrepreneurs and advised we look at the bigger picture working hard to achieve this goal.

Mimi Bawa – Allah stated the need to have a structure in running the affairs of FEBWE to achieve better results.

Tola Omole was nominated as the National Coordinator to handle affairs working closely with Iyalode Alaba Lawson. Tola Omole stated the need to work as a team and have representatives in all the states of the Federation.

Iyalode Alaba Lawson emphasized the need to re-register FEBWE in Nigeria so as to have more relevance where there will be the board of Trustees, Regional directors to have a more organized/structured association. Restructuring of all the papers concerning FEBWE will be ongoing.

Deliberations on the meeting were concluded upon and it was agreed that meetings will hold every second Wednesday of every month for now so as to put structures in place for the smooth running of the association. The next meeting will be on Wednesday 8th of April 2020. Time 10 am. The Venue will be communicated to all.
