ECOWAS-FEBWE and SMEDAN Forge Transformative Partnership.

In a significant move for women entrepreneurs in Lagos, ECOWAS FEBWE Lagos State and SMEDAN have initiated discussions aimed at creating a groundbreaking partnership. The meeting, which took place on October 16, 2023, at Alausa, Lagos State, could reshape the business landscape in the region. Notably, it was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Mrs. Favorite Obadigie, Prof. Adeyinka Fisher, Dr Abiose Taiwo, Mr. Bukola Shode, and Mrs. Bukola Shonde.

Established by the ECOWAS Commission in 2009, ECOWAS FEBWE is dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs across the ECOWAS region. FEBWE, the acronym used in Anglophone countries, is at the forefront of promoting women in business. Led by Iyalode Alaba Lawson, with Mrs. Omotola Omole as the National Coordinator, ECOWAS FEBWE Nigeria is committed to enhancing women’s products and services.

SMEDAN, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, has played a pivotal role in nurturing SMEs in Nigeria. Their contributions and support have been instrumental in fostering a thriving community of business owners.

ECOWAS FEBWE Lagos State is eager to collaborate with SMEDAN. They seek to become a priority Business Membership Organization (BMO) within SMEDAN, with a focus on enhancing women’s economic empowerment. A meeting has been scheduled to refine their first joint program, set to commence in December 2023.

This partnership offers a promising future for women entrepreneurs in Lagos, potentially serving as a model for collaborations nationwide and within the ECOWAS region. The business community eagerly awaits further developments.
